The broadcasting of live sporting events on FATV has been a tradition for over 25 years, and is one of the centerpieces of our Education Channel.

Coverage can range from a single camera with an integrated scoreboard and running clock, to a multi-camera affair with detailed on-screen graphics and replays. We also have the ability to commentate on games remotely, with a camera on site and announcers back at the studio.

We produce live coverage of all Fitchburg High School football games from Historic Crocker Field, along with every meeting on the gridiron between the Red Raiders and their archrival Leominster High School. Our football coverage also extends to the collegiate ranks, as we also carry all home games for the Falcons of Fitchburg State University.

Another institution of our sports coverage is Hockey Night in Fitchburg, our coverage for Saturday night ice hockey games dating back to the 1992-93 season. For many years, we’ve produced games from the Wallace Civic Center featuring the Fitchburg/Monty Tech, Fitchburg State, and St. Bernard’s ice hockey teams.

We’ve also carried basketball games for many years featuring the area teams, and produced live coverage of the Fitchburg Criterium of the Longsjo Classic, once the second oldest cycling event in the United States, up until its final running in 2019.

One of our proudest accomplishments at FATV was our sports coverage during the 2020-21 school year. Due to the pandemic, many venues either severely limited the number of spectators that could attend, or prohibited them from entering the facility entirely. FATV was invited into these venues in order to carry coverage for those who couldn’t watch in person. During that school year, we were able to broadcast every home game for Fitchburg High School in several sports, along with every game of ice hockey and football that season.

Today, our sports coverage is one of our strongest assets at FATV. Not only do we continue to cover football, ice hockey, and basketball; but we’ve also recently begun broadcasting other Fitchburg High sports including field hockey, soccer, and volleyball.
